Research
In the article Screening, Diagnosing and Progress Monitoring for Fluency: the Details, Jan Hasbrouk states that “screening, diagnosing, and progress monitoring are essential to making sure that all students become fluent readers and the words-correct per-minute (WCPM) procedure can work for all three (n.p).”  As such, the videos and the lesson that I selected for this section of the table are intended as a how-to- guide for diagnostic fluency assessment practice at the beginning of the year.

Adaptations and Assistive Technology

Choose scripts that have parts at many different reading levels, and arrange groups accordingly.

Students can record a video of themselves themselves using IMovie:

You can also create a podcast using IMovie

Research
Although repeated reading is intended as a one-on-one teacher-led activity, as discussed in The Timed Reading Passage video above,  Students will experience similar benefits from constantly re-reading a Reader’s Theatre script.  Additionally, by having small groups record their performances, students can hear their reading voices, and fix mistakes in the film editing process.
